Former Tokitsukaze sumo wrestler, Masahiro Sakamoto (51), is back in the spotlight. This time, he was arrested by the Tokyo Metropolitan Police on suspicion of forgery of official documents. Sakamoto allegedly used fake "parking exclusion badges" to avoid tickets.
According to the investigation, Sakamoto put a fake tag on his car while parking in Ryogoku, Tokyo. The mark is a color copy of someone else's. Police suspect that Sakamoto has repeatedly committed parking violations using fake signs since July last year.
Sakamoto admitted his actions and said that he did it to avoid a ticket. This is not the first time Sakamoto has been in trouble. Previously, he resigned from the Japan Sumo Association in 2021 after being caught violating the COVID-19 health protocol.
This case adds to a long list of controversies involving the former sumo wrestler. The police are still continuing to investigate this case to uncover the motive and possible involvement of other parties.
